Este manual proporciona una evaluación completa de los logros y retos actuales del Programa Minimalista. Fundada hace 15 años por Noam Chomsky con el objetivo de hacer todas las declaraciones sobre el lenguaje lo más simple y general posible, el minimalismo lingüístico se encuentra en el centro de los esfuerzos por comprender cómo la facultad humana del lenguaje opera en la mente y se manifiesta en lenguas. En este libro los principales investigadores de todo el mundo exploran los orígenes del programa, el curso de sus investigaciones a veces muy técnico, y sus conexiones con otras disciplinas, tales como la evolución, la biología del desarrollo, la ciencia cognitiva, la ciencia computacional, y la filosofía de la mente. Los autores examinan todos los aspectos de la empresa, muestran cómo cada parte se relaciona con el todo, y como se plantean cuestiones y propuestas teóricas y metodológicas.

Los diversos capítulos de este libro trazan el desarrollo de las ideas minimalistas en lingüística, resaltan su importancia y su carácter distintivo, y relacionan la investigación minimalista con campos paralelos. Se centran en los aspectos fundamentales de la sintaxis, como los rasgos, el caso, la estructura de frase, las derivaciones y las representaciones, y en cuestiones de interfaz dentro de la gramática. También toman el minimalismo fuera del dominio de la gramática para examinar su papel en la estrecha relación con los proyectos biolingüísticos, incluida la evolución de la mente y el lenguaje y la relación entre lenguaje y pensamiento. Acerca del autor (s)

Cedric Boeckx es Profesor del Instituto Catalán de Investigación de Estudios Avanzados (ICREA) y miembro del Centro de Lingüística Teórica de la Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona.Anteriormente, fue Profesor Asociado de Lingüística en la Universidad de Harvard. Es autor de Islands and chains, Linguistic Minimalism, Bare syntax y Language in cognition. Ha publicado numerosos artículos en revistas como Linguistics Inquiry y Natural Languge and Linguistic Theory.
